Strange. The related packages are xfree86-common and
xdebconfigurator. I do not know what might be wrong. I suspect the
ram setting was probed, but not sure if it was probed by xfree86 or
one of the HW detection packages used by xdebconfigurator.

This is a known bug in kdm from KDE 2.2.2. We know no way to specify
which charset to use in kdm, so if the character is missing from
ISO-8859-1, only a question mark shows up. This is reported to
bugzilla as <URL:http://bugs.skolelinux.no/show_bug.cgi?id=233>
(sorry, it is in norwegian). If you find a way to change the charset
of kdm 2.2.2, we are interested.

The problem might be solved when KDE 3.x stabilises in sid/sarge, and
we can upgrade to this version. The problem is claimed to be fixed in
newer versions of kde.
