The distribution should work on old and small computers, commonly found in schools. It should fit completely on one CD.
The distribution is based on Debian GNU/Linux with desktop environments from KDE and GNOME.
These requirements may change as testing and experience is gathered from schools currently trialing Skolelinux
WINE may be useful for the schools which are dependent on some windows-based software
Secondary schools have an additional requirement for database software, and an alternative to the Visual Basic scripting language.

The distribution is based on Debian GNU/Linux for Intel x86 hardware. The base distribution is based on woody and the debian-installer. More information on Debian is available here .
Packages for the installation profiles, are available from CVS:
A CVS server for exchange, and updates too documentation, website and code, has been made available through viewcvs and anonymous CVS.
An FTP-server has also been made publically available. Prerelease CD-images and more, may be downloaded from here. Those that wish to do so, may build their own installation CD.. For the brave at heart, a copy of the development CD is available Use rsync if you have an earlier version of the CD-image. This is substantially faster than retrieving the entire image from scratch.
A architecture document is under development.
