Consept of DOCBOOK
DOKBOOK is written in SGML. SGML is a set of rules/gramer
how to write the tags in the document. In adittion its a
diconary, that tells what the tags do. There are diffrents
dictionary to SGML. The one i DOKBOOK, with this document is
about, and an other one i HTML.
In the later versions, it's possible to use XML instead of
SGML. XML is intended to replace SGML. XML is simpler than SGML,
and therefor easiar to make, and make programs that use it.
Dokbook 4 > and HTML 4.01 can be written i XML (note: HTML
4.01 in XML, is called xHTML 1.0)
Unlike WISIWIG editors, like Word Perfect 6>, and
Microsoft Word, where you define how the document is going to
look like. Everything from font type, to font color &c. In
DOKBOOK the content is separated form presentation. The author,
insted of defining what type of font to use, he/she defines
chapters, title of the chapter, paragraph &c. The layout is
defined in style sheets, and is applied to the text when it is
rendered. The documents can be rendered in to multiple formats,
like HTML, pdf, rtf, ps, plain text.
Software
Basicly DOCBOOK is plain text. Therefor any text editor
will do. A pure texteditor damands more of a users, since it will
have to remember all the tags. There are a lot of editors that
have syntax higlighting. This makes it easyer to heed misstakes
with syntax higlighting.
